1. The Vasa Museum, Stockholm

This is what happens when the King is battling in war far away in another country and give orders to construct a ship in the way he wants it regardless what every expert says and how every test fail. For that time, it would have been one of the most advanced and powerful warships, but what they got was also a wrongly constructed ship that sank just leaving the harbour. But we also got a very well preserved wreck that and a clever museum that tells the story about 17th century Sweden and Stockholm. Absolutely fascinating, this museum is not only unique, but a marvellous gem in the world of museums.

2. The Ice Hotel, Kiruna

You need to go far, far up to the most northern parts of Sweden to Kiruna be able to stay over in a hotel made of ice. It’s reconstructed every year with a new theme. Great artists and craftsmen collaborate every year to give us a new unique experience, though I know no one who has visited the hotel more than once.

3. Abisko National Park, Lapland

Visit this wonderful winter landscape and you’ll probably have the possibility to experience the magic of the Northern Lights.

4. Jokkmokk Winter Market

Visit Jokkmokk in februari and the annual winter market with more than 30,000 visitors each year. Meet the minority the Sami people and buy their famous handicraft. But be well dressed, in this time of the year, it can be as cold as -40 degrees Celsius.

5. Visby Medieval Week

Dress up as a knight the whole week if you want and attend tournaments. This week is completely dedicated to the medieval times.

6. Drottningholm Castle

This great fairytale castle situated a little bit outside of Stockholm and makes a great half day tour.

7. Uppsala Domkyrka

Northern Europe’s greatest, biggest Cathedral is a must if you visit anything outside Stockholm.

8. Djurgården and Skansen

Pretty surroundings and a lot of animals make the perfect place to spend a day with the kids.

9. Kalmar Castle

A great big castle with amazing surroundings and host of many nice arts exhibitions. Don’t be afraid to take a detour to Kalmar just to visit this beautiful place.

10. The Old Town, Stockholm

Well, if you are in Stockholm, the Old Town is pretty hard to miss. Wonderful old, narrow streets and many things to visit, watch and do. The small museum Livrustkammaren on the side of Stockholm’s Castle is very much recommended a visit if you love medieval armours, weapons or historical clothes.
